A unique contract employment opportunity exists with The Adams River Salmon Society. This role is an amalgam of the Administrative Coordinator and Event Manager roles for the society. 


Include but not limited to:


Administrative Coordinator Duties:

  • Prepare the agenda & record minutes for The Adams River Salmons Society Board Meetings

  • Plan and implement the Annual General Meeting for The Adams River Salmon Society.

  • Support proposals for funding The Adams River Salmon Society Projects

  • Prepare press releases to engage and educate the communities in and around the Shuswap region about The Adams River Salmon Society

  • Coordinate visitor information with local businesses, tourism organizations and BC Parks to have this information located in the Interpretive Cabin at Tsútswecw Provincial Park

  • Plan, develop and implement The Adams River Salmon Society Events each year not including the Salute to the Sockeye


Event Manager Duties:

  • Liaise between Salute Committee, the Government, the community, all site committees and stakeholders-including Indigenous peoples, DFO and BC Parks

  • Pursue funding, Sponsorship, Partnerships and other Financial opportunities.

  • Coordinate Marketing and Tourism initiatives in preparation for Salute 

  • Coordinate logistics on-the-ground at the actual Salute to the Sockeye event

  • Provide central point of contact for media including news, photographers, videographer and others.

  • Coordinate all RFQ and RFP processes including preparation, issuance, evaluation, award and management of contracts

  • Complete Salute within approved budget and in accordance with approved schedule

  • Oversee and train staff and volunteers.

  • Provide all invested parties with a wrap-up report which will include statistics and constructive suggestions.




Five years experience with events of similar size and scale preferred

  • The ability to prepare successful grant proposals for grant funding

  • Demonstrated expertise to manage successful high-profile, large scale events and projects.

  • Functional knowledge of issuing RFQ’s, RFPs and contract management

  • Extensive media savvy including social media and more

  • Coordinator/Manager experience involving diverse interest groups

  • Superior communications skills including public speaking, writing, reporting, motivation & negotiations

  • Ability to foresee and anticipate required interpretive materials, project requirements and discern work priorities

  • Interpretive tourism ambassadors experience is desirable

  • Must have knowledge and expertise in handling cash, POS & finances

  • Proven ability to complete projects to a high standard with minimal supervision

  • Good understanding of the life cycle of the wild pacific salmon, environmental watershed issues and conservation ethic.


  • Degree in Tourism or Project Management or equivalent experience coordinating large-scale events.

  • Flexibility to work extensive hours and with varying shift schedules

  • Access to reliable transportation and reside within a 1.5 hour response time to the event site at Tsutswecw Provincial Park in Lee Creek, BC

  • Possess office equipment and space to perform all required duties off-site leading up to and after the event. The Salmon Society will provide office space on-site during the Salute event.

  • Provide a clear Criminal Check



Anticipated contract start date is May 16, 2022

Estimated number of hours required 20 hours per week, understanding there will be an increase in the number of hours during the Salute Event and possibly during the planning stages.
