The Salute 2014 Commemorative Poster
Thank you to local artist Lisa Figueroa
Lisa Figueroa lives in the Shuswap and spends great amounts of time photographing and painting the beauty she sees around her. The Sockeye Salmon of the Adams River have fascinated her for many years and have become a cornerstone of her artistic practice. Lisa has built an installation piece “Death Roe” which can be seen in full at the Vernon Public Art Gallery from October 16 – November 13, 2014 or viewed on YouTube (Death Roe by Lisa Figueroa). The 2014 Salute to the Sockeye poster features one of the paintings from the installation, “Firenesters Spawning”, “looking at the salmon through the water the fish break up into “flames” of oranges, reds and pink tones as the water fractures and refracts light on and around the sockeye, it becomes an elemental dance of procreation”. The Salute to the Salmon poster and other artwork by Lisa will be available through the souvenir cabin during seasonal operation at Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park.
The poster can still be purchased this season at our Souvenir Cabin.
